SCCA Racing October 24, 2009
| This was the inaugural year for the new racetrack at High Plains Raceway and I've been
wanting to go there all year long. On October 24 the SCCA was holding races, and I finally had a free Saturday, so
I drove on down and spent the day at the racetrack. Of course I had my trusty camera by my side.
|
This first block of pictures is from the morning time trials. I wanted to get a picture of each car up close and
then in the later blocks of pictures you'll see them out on the track.
|
Here are some action shots from the time trials. Car 09 (Miata) is driven by Jason Ott, son of BMCNC member Dave
Ott. Jason lapped several other cars but I'm not sure what standing he took in the finals. You'll also see the
black no. 17 Caterham. There is a yellow Mazda RX-7 that had trouble and went off the curve several times.
|
This next block of pictures is still time trials but the formula cars.
|
Another group of cars came out of the pits and joined the first group. Here are some more action shots.
Some of these cars were so fast all I could catch in the picture was the front
or back!
|
At noon there was a break in the racing. Then at a little after 1 pm the official race started. The first pictures
are the cars waiting in the pits.
|
Here are the action sequences from the first race.
|
In this sequence of pictures, the Caterham comes very close to lapping the Monte
Carlo. Jason Ott in Miata #09 was able to lap the Monte Carlo at least once, maybe more during the race.
|
This final set of pictures is the cars coming into the pits after the final lap.

If you like driving the backroads (and I DO mean backroads!) here are some directions from the Ft Collins,
Loveland and Greeley area:
- Take Hwy 34 east of Greeley and turn south on WCR 49, the Kersey Road (they're putting in a stoplight)
- Go about 20 miles south to I-76. Turn left (east) on I-76 or you can take the frontage road on the south side
- Go about 4 miles east to Keenesburg. In Keenesburg, cross the tracks and go east until the last paved road,
which goes south 2 miles to Hwy 52. There's a school at the intersection
- On Hwy 52, go left (east) about 5 miles to Pleasant Valley
- Take Hwy 71 south (right) and go about 25 miles to Bennett
- Before you get to Bennett, the highway turns west--but take the cutoff to the left (east) that goes down
in the valley
- Follow the cutoff a mile and it will go right to Hwy 36. Turn left (east) on 36
- Just after Strasburg the highway will turn south and you'll see a sign for the memorial to the Oklahoma
football team crash. Turn left onto that road so you're still going east
- After a couple of miles you'll come right back onto Hwy 36. Keep going east another 10 miles to the track
