Gyp Hills photos!

Shawn has a route where he pumps wells that goes out through the Gyp Hills, including the Zbar ranch where the TBS mogul Ted Turner raises buffalo. We took a drive out that way and saw a lot of wildlife, both wild and fenced in.

There are several geologic formations where the red clay soil would erode, leaving canyons in between buttes, dotted with green cedar trees.
The first wildlife we saw was this heron, or at least we thought it was a heron. In that last picture, it landed just at the end of that small ridge.
The other wildlife we saw was wild turkeys. Not the kind that Larry drinks, but the kind that you eat at Thanksgiving.
Along one road there was a cactus growing so I got some pictures.
As we got farther west, there was a huge ridge, where the road cuts down the side of the butte to the oil wells below. Shawn dropped me off and drove on down to wells. I took several shots and put them together in this panorama. You can just barely make out Shawn's white pickup down at the well. You can double click on the picture and it will open up to a huge picture where you have to scroll to see it all. Move the sliding bar across the bottom to see the whole picture.
The main wildlife that we were looking for was the buffalo. There are several hundred head of buffalo on the ranch, kept in by huge fences and "buffalo guards", like cattle guards but made heavier to keep the buffalo in.
This big guy here decided he needed to scratch his back by rolling in the dirt.
He started to get up, and then decided that he still needed more scratching.
