Satellite photos!
Here is a satellite photo of Medicine Lodge that I was able to capture
off the internet! This picture will take a long time to download if you are on
a dial-up modem, so be patient! This satellite photo was taken on January 1st,
2000.
At the top center is the Barber County State Lake and below that of course is
Medicine Lodge. Just to the left of the lake you can follow Hwy 281 south to the
intersection with Hwy 160. Then go left (west) and you'll see a dark squiggly
line which is the Medicine River. As you go left (west) you come to the
intersection where Hwy 281 goes south. The square mile south west of that
intersection is "the old Adams place" now owned by Jerry Garten and his sister
Nancy. One of those bright green patches should be the new Garten home. Follow
the highway south as it curves east and back south. At the first county road
that crosses the highway, turn left (west). The earth colored square to the
south west of the intersection is Pat & Walt's home, formally known as Pleasant
Hill Road. And yes, it's very pleasant. Pat tells me they have some nosey
neighbors who keep coming in their house to get snacks after school, under the
pretense of being their grandsons.
Back at the intersection of Hwys. 281 & 160 on the south end of ML, go east
(right) and you'll see a white road going south from the center of town. This
would be where Main Street goes past Master's Cafe and south across Elm Creek.
(That's where Eddie Geiger burned up the engine in his brand new 1972 Olds 442
when we were in high school). Follow this road all the way south until you have
to turn right (east). After you pass the brown area on the north of the road,
turn left to go north again. You'll see a black diagonal crossing the road and
going back into town. That is the location of Shawn and Tonya's place, and that
black diagonal is actually an old set of train tracks. As you follow that road
back north to Hwy 160, you can see the rodeo grounds as a light circle on the
right. When you're back on Hwy 160, go right (east) and you'll see a fan-shaped
light green area. That is the Peace Treaty grounds, cleverly disguised as a golf
course. The darker area to the south would be the ampitheater where the Peace
Treaty was performed and I shot my pictures
last year.
